Safe Medication + Medical Sharps Disposal
HENDRICKS COUNTY MEDICINE DROP BOXES
Properly disposing of prescription medicine can help keep our drinking water safe, as well as reduce the risk of misuse due to addiction. In Hendricks County, there are 6 locations that anyone can use to anonymously drop off unwanted, unused, and expired medications. 
Users of the drop boxes should leave medicines in the original containers. View these drop box locations below:

TOX AWAY DAYS
Tox-Away Days are collection events hosted by the Hendricks County Recycling District where Hendricks County households can properly dispose of medications and medical sharps, as well as other items such as; chemicals, fluids, bulbs, batteries, tanks, tires, electronics, appliances, and more. The Hendricks County Health Department offers free Sharps containers at Tox Away Days as well. There are 5 Tox Away Days each year hosted in Danville, Plainfield, Brownsburg, and Avon.

HENDRICKS COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
​SAFE SHARPS DISPOSAL

Medical sharps such as syringes, lancets and needles pose environmental and health hazards if not disposed of properly. Hendricks County residents can obtain free sharps containers that once full, can be exchanged for a new, empty container. The sharps collected through the program will be managed and destroyed in a safe manner through a medical waste contractor. Questions about the Safe Sharps Disposal Program should be directed to the Hendricks County Health Department's Nursing Division at 317-745-9222.

​OPIOID OVERDOSE REVERSAL PROGRAMS

Hendricks County Health Department Naloxone Distribution + Training
The Hendricks County Health Department offers free naloxone (Narcan) training to any agency or individual in Hendricks County that needs it. This training covers recognizing the signs and symptoms of opioid overdoses, how to reverse an opioid overdose with the use of naloxone, and resources related to addiction and recovery. Free doses of naloxone are also available to the public through this program. Naloxone is a safe and effective nasal spray medication that quickly reverses an opioid overdose.

Countywide 24/7 Free Narcan- Naloxbox Program​

In collaboration with Overdose Lifeline, the Hendricks County Health Department has 3 locations in which Narcan were made publically available 24/7 through storage boxes called Naloxboxes. Naloxboxes are a hard acrylic box mounted to the exterior wall of a building that provides 24/7 access to readily-accessible doses of nasal-spray naloxone—an effective opioid reversal medication, steps on how to administer the medication, and local referrals for substance use treatment.  The use of the Naloxboxes will be completely confidential and free to access. All Naloxboxes are regularly restocked to provide Naloxone to all who need it.
