CHILDREN'S SHELTER
The children’s shelter offers emergency, temporary housing for children experiencing crises in Indianapolis and central Indiana. The facility offers a safe haven to runaway and homeless youth, as well as kids removed from their homes due to child abuse and neglect. The children’s shelter also offers planned respite services for families who are experiencing significant stress and challenges at home. On average, kids stay at the shelter for less than two weeks.
Indiana Foster Care Services
Many Indiana children need a safe home and nurturing family. A foster parent is someone who provides a stable, supportive living environment for a child who cannot live with biological parents due to family disruption, abuse or neglect. Some children stay in foster care for weeks, some for years. There is no “ideal” foster family. Foster parents help children heal and find stability while acting as role models for the biological family. Some foster homes become adoptive homes, and sometimes they help children achieve independent living. There are specific requirements for Indiana foster parents, but the most important requirement is the desire to love a child in need.
INDIANA CHILD CARE DEVELOPMENT FUND (CCDF)
All families deserve to have access to the same opportunities. The Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) program is designed to ensure that low-income families in Indiana have equal access to child care and educational opportunities. Firefly Children and Family Alliance provides eligibility determination services for families accessing the CCDF program.
For many Indiana families, access to high-quality child care is simply too expensive. Without the support of the CCDF program, many parents wouldn’t have the opportunity to work or attend school. The CCDF program provides parents with the financial support to afford quality child care while they are working, attending training, or going to school.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS FOR CHILD SAFETY
Firefly Children and Family Alliance is the largest child abuse prevention provider in central Indiana. The agency assumed this responsibility in 1999 when a federally funded grant supported the pilot of the Neighborhood Alliance for Child Safety Program (NACS) in Marion County. The impact of the NACS program on child abuse prevention was so successful that it expanded throughout central Indiana and was renamed Community Partners for Child Safety. The program is voluntary and designed to ensure safe, stable homes for children. CPCS provides community support to vulnerable families located in central Indiana that self-identify or are referred by community agencies, schools, churches, relatives and other community systems.
FAMILY PRESERVATION & REUNIFICATION
Everyone deserves to feel comfortable and safe in their home environment, especially children. As part of our home-based program, our counselors and therapists work with high-risk families who have been identified by the Indiana Department of Child Services. Our program is built around two categories: family preservation services and family reunification services.
Our family preservation services are focused on resolving family crises to prevent out-of-home placement, while our family reunification services are designed to resolve the circumstances that led to the removal of the child. Both programs focus on educating and empowering all family members to prevent disruption or to achieve reunification. Above all, the program is built to ensure the child’s long-term well-being.
Topics of discussion covered during family preservation or reunification services might include parenting education, communication techniques, identifying rules and boundaries, nutrition, budgeting assistance and stress management, among others.
