ADVOCACY PROGRAMS
BACI advocates for successful integration of newcomers through education, employment, naturalization and civic engagement, refugee protection, the advancement of the Burmese-American community, as well as through supporting peace and democracy in Myanmar.
We work with the community members and partners, creating avenues, such as cultural festivals, special engagement events, voters education talks and others thereby increasing citizens participation and civic engagement activities.
We provide English & Citizenship classes and assist newcomers with their naturalization process, including filing forms N400, G-28 etc. as well as help the community members to become civically engaged citizens.
We assist newcomers with their employment, training, and give small business start-up assistance as they become self-sufficient. This allows them to give back to their communities and contribute to economic growth.
To help address the emerging needs in the community particularly in light of the aftermath of COVID-19 pandemic, the Community Health and Wellness Program (CHWP) was launched in October 2022. CHWP promotes a healthy community and the wellbeing of members of the community by helping address the issues surrounding mental health, behavioral health, physical health, social emotional health and others.
Our resettlement programs give families a new start in Indiana. We join a welcoming community in the USA since 2021 to resettle Burmese, Afghans, Ukrainians, humanitarian parolees and refugees around the world to new neighbors in Indiana reflecting the Hoosiers’ hospitality and the American leadership.

Central Indiana ABSW, Inc., is comprised of Black people committed to enhancing the quality of life and empowering Black people through advocacy, human services delivery, and research. Our roots are intertwined with those of local African American organizations in the Civil Rights Movement, as well as the pioneers of the first NABSW Indianapolis Chapter in the 1970s. We rose up to mobilize for liberation by living our core principles and the Code of Ethics. In spite of the challenges, we have linked the strengths of the past to retain our charter since 1985. We reincorporated as the “Central Indiana Chapter” in 2005, and attained our 501c3 status in 2006. In 2013, we changed our name to “Central Indiana ABSW, Inc.”

We are the oldest organization promoting awareness and appreciation of the Chinese culture in the greater Indianapolis region.

What is a DOULA? A person who is trained to assist a woman during childbirth, and who supports the mother and family before and after the birth. Doulas are more than a birthing coach, they are an advocate for the mom. Doulas facilitate a safe, empowering birth experience, and provide the physicals, emotional, and educational support for a pregnant mom. The IMHC CDS program is operated by the Indiana Minority Health Coalition (IMHC), and serves Elkhart, LaPorte, and Cass counties. This program has multiple partners who provide resources and a variety of educational programs.
