Autism Spectrum and Developmental Disorders Outpatient Program
The Autism Spectrum and Development Disorders Outpatient Program provides comprehensive assessment and treatment for individuals with autism spectrum disorder and other related neurodevelopmental disorders from birth to age 18 years. Services include:
  • Diagnostic and comprehensive evaluations that include parent/caregiver interview, structured child observations, and standardized testing to assess autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability and other neurodevelopmental disorders. These evaluations take place over multiple visits when necessary.
  • Behavioral Interventions that include applied behavior analysis-based parent management training to address challenging behaviors (such as aggression, self-injury and tantrums) and social skill deficits and activities of daily living (such as toilet training difficulties). Providers also conduct modified cognitive-behavioral therapy to address co-morbid diagnoses (e.g., anxiety, depression) for individuals with autism spectrum disorder when appropriate.
  • Medication management is provided by board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists. Our psychiatrist-lead treatment teams include psychiatry residents, fellows and medical students to manage behavior problems and comorbidities through medications when appropriate.
Substance Use – Adolescent Dual Diagnosis Clinic
The Riley Adolescent Dual Diagnosis Clinic provides best-practice evaluation and treatment services for youth with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Each course of care starts with a comprehensive evaluation so we can get to know each patient’s needs and goals for treatment. From there, our multidisciplinary team works with families to identify the best treatment approach. Our team is one of only a few sites nationally to offer ENCOMPASS, an evidence-based therapy program incorporating several research-based strategies for helping youth with substance use and mental health disorders. ENCOMPASS is a team-based approach that involves one-on-one therapy for youth, sessions for parents and caregivers, family sessions, and medication management when indicated. In addition, the Adolescent Dual Diagnosis Clinic offers brief interventions, as well as consultation support for other professionals who work with youth who use substances.
Family Based Treatment Clinic
The Family Based Treatment team provides diagnostic evaluations and treatment for children, teens and their parent or caregiver using evidence-based medication management and psychotherapy. Treated conditions include anxiety and depression in adults and anxiety, depression, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, and disruptive behavior disorders in their children. We use specialized psychotherapies: cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for adults, and CBT and a behavior management program for children and teens.
Mood Disorder Clinic
The mood disorder team provides diagnostic evaluations and treatment for children and teens, using evidence-based medication management and psychotherapy. Treated conditions include major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder and disruptive mood dysregulation disorder. We use specialized psychotherapies including cognitive behavioral therapy and interpersonal psychotherapy along with medications and, occasionally, transcranial magnetic stimulation and electroconvulsive therapy.
Riley Multisystemic Therapy Program
The Riley Multisystemic Therapy (MST) Program is an intensive, family- and community-based treatment for youth ages 12-17 who are at risk of severe system consequences (e.g., juvenile justice involvement, out-of-home placement) due to serious externalizing, anti-social, and/or delinquent behaviors. Families who participate in this program work closely with their therapist to learn how to address drivers of behavior problems and make long-lasting changes. Because this treatment is delivered in the home setting, families must live within 60 minutes driving distance of Riley Children's Hospital to participate.
Tic/Anxiety/Compulsion Clinic
The Tic/Anxiety/Compulsion team provides diagnostic evaluations and treatment for children and teens, using evidence-based medication management and psychotherapy. Treated conditions include obsessive-compulsive disorder, Tourette disorder, social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and selective mutism.
